On this weeks programme we are joined by Fr Brendan Clifford OP who introduces us to the Dominican Biblical Institute in Limerick and the courses provided to encourage people to study and become more familiar with Holy Scripture. We have our regular reflection on the Sunday gospel as well as our saints of the week.

Dominican Biblical Institute

 
We are joined by Fr Brendan Clifford OP this week who introduces us to the Dominican Biblical Institute in Limerick. In the jubilee year of 2000 the Dominican Province of Ireland set up the Dominican Biblical Institute in Limerick for the purpose of biblical research and teaching. The Institute aims to:

• advance biblical research
• promote global dialogue, especially between the Bible and Science with other disciplines, especially literature and science, thus forming a single multi-faceted story in which all human beings could find a home
• bring fresh energy to applying the Bible to daily life (lectio divina), thereby bringing biblical research to street level. The ultimate focus of the DBI is pastoral, engaging with surrounding communities: schools and colleges, church groups and the general public.

As part of its aims, the Institute runs a Diploma in Biblical Studies which aims to equip participants to deepen their personal faith and their understanding of and love for the scriptures, and will give them the knowledge and the practical skills to work with scripture. The course will also introduce the participants to the principles of Christian theology. In doing theology, people of faith seek to understand the deep questions about God and about life. The course will provide a solid biblical foundation for this theological reflection.

The programme runs over three years, one full Saturday per month September to May 9.30 - 4.15pm and also one Wednesday evening, usually mid-month from 7.15 - 9.45pm. Staff and Lecturers will be present to provide further information and answer any questions. Time: 5pm - 8pm

 

 

 Gospel - Mark 7: 1-8, 14-15, 21-23
 

 
This week we return to reading the gospel of Mark. We are presented with another interaction between Jesus and the Pharisees revolving around the observance of the external rules and rituals which were common to the Jewish people. Jesus challenges the Pharisees as to why they are observing the external forms without a conversion of heart to come back to God.
